At Trade Institute of Victoria (TIV), we have always supported women taking up trades. We feel women have a lot to offer the construction industry, and in turn, the industry has a lot to offer them.

In the coming year we want to do even more to encourage young women leaving school to consider a trade career. Likewise, we want to be able to support mature age women who want a career change.

The Building and Construction Industry is Australia’s second largest industry, and women only make up 2% of the work force. With growing amount of job opportunities in the Building Industry, women are encourage to pursue a trades career.

Inspiring women in trade

Positive female role models are a great inspiration to women looking to join the building and construction industry. So we’d love to introduce you to some of our former successful women in trade.

Becca – A working charity trip to Nepal in 2018 spurred Becca to seek a career change, and she hasn’t looked back after recently completing her CPC30220 – Certificate III in Carpentry.

Assia – After arriving in Australia from her native Lebanon, Assia followed a dream to work in construction and now owns her own building company, Osman Homes.

Nadia – Becoming a registered builder seemed a natural progression for Nadia, after excelling in her trade courses and doing better than most of the men.

Tamara & Lucy – Forming a firm friendship when doing a CPC50220 – Diploma of Building through TIV, both went on to land plum roles in the industry.
