(03) 9399 9511Western Bulldogs Premiership pair Luke Dahlhaus and Lachie Hunter are the latest AFL stars to join forces with the Trade Institute of Victoria.
The dynamic duo today joined TIV’s highly regarded Certificate III in Carpentry course, and commenced training this morning at TIV’s state-of-the-art outdoor workplace training facility in West Footscray.
Dahlhaus and Hunter are slightly different to other AFL players involved in TIV’s Carpentry course in that that they have already completed a significant amount of the Certificate III in Carpentry program previously.
With a third of the course already under their belts, both Dahlhaus and Hunter are looking forward to joining TIV to complete their qualification in preparation for life after after football.
“Our football career with the Bulldogs is obviously our number one priority but when I saw the vision of the Richmond and St. Kilda boys loving their study at TIV it reinforced the fact that this is something I definitely want to complete, and TIV is the perfect place to do that,” Dahlhaus says.
“I’ve always been interested in doing something outside of football, and with the flexibility TIV offers in being able to accommodate us while still focussing on our footy career, it just makes sense to get the qualification completed,” Hunter adds.
The addition of two outstanding young men from the Western Bulldogs gives even further credibility and profile to an already impressive and reputable Certificate III in Carpentry program at the Trade Institute of Victoria.
TIV now has more than 30 AFL players from five AFL clubs studying trade based courses in 2017.
Western Bulldogs Player Welfare Manager, Brent Prismall is a strong advocate for improving the pathway for those AFL players interested in pursuing a career in trade related professions.
“The trade industry really is one of the hardest areas to pin down with respect to a clear and definitive pathway for AFL players,” Prismall says.
“TIV makes sense to us at the Bulldogs because they are local, flexible, credible and have a genuine willingness to assist professional athletes like AFL players,” he adds.
The Western Bulldogs join Collingwood, Richmond, North Melbourne and St. Kilda as the fifth AFL club with players studying courses at TIV.
The importance of life after football is an increasingly important priority for the AFL and its clubs, and Prismall agrees;
“We take the education and training of our players very seriously at the Western Bulldogs, and after doing our due diligence we are confident that TIV will assist our players to achieve their goals away from the football club.”
