Four Hot Pies

The Trade Institute of Victoria (TIV) is proud to announce a unique partnership with four players from Australia’s most iconic and popular sporting organisation, the Collingwood Football Club.

A quartet of the Magpies most talented players, Steele Sidebottom, Taylor Adams, Jordan De Goey and Will Hoskin-Elliott today joined TIV’s highly regarded and widely recognised Certificate III in Carpentry course based in Williamstown.

Collingwood joins Richmond, St. Kilda and North Melbourne as the fourth AFL club to study Carpentry at the Trade Institute of Victoria, bringing the number of AFL players to study courses at TIV to more than 30.

TIV’s education and training model has been a resounding success since developing a flexible and innovative training regime specifically designed to cater for AFL clubs.

Not only is their Certificate III in Carpentry course considered one of the best in the business, TIV is also one of the very few registered training organisations whose Carpentry program is endorsed and subsidised by the Victorian State Government in 2017.

The awareness of the importance of life after football has increased exponentially among the AFL population over the last decade, in particular.

AFL clubs should be commended for the emphasis they place, and the support they provide, in ensuring their players are involved in educational training programs external to the football club.

Trade professions have long been considered one of the hardest industries for AFL players to find a structured pathway to balance with the demands of their immediate playing careers – until now.

Collingwood Assistant coach Brenton Sanderson believes the AFL has come a long way with regards to the welfare and development of its players.

“The education and training of players away from football is an increasingly important priority for AFL clubs, and Collingwood is no exception,” Sanderson says.

“TIV has a great reputation in the education and training space and I know the players are really excited about getting started.”
