TIV’s Certificate IV in Building & Construction is designed to meet the needs of aspiring or existing Builders and Managers of small to medium sized building businesses and for people interested in becoming registered builders.

This nationally recognised part-time course is delivered twice a week from 6-9pm (either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday) at a range of quality venues and locations throughout Metropolitan Melbourne.

There are also three compulsory ‘Super Saturday’ classes throughout the six month program, which are specifically designed to practically implement the material learned during the evening classes.

The Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building), along with three years practical experience in the building industry is one of the more reputable pathways to becoming a registered builder.

Whilst the course itself is predominately classroom based, TIV’s method of delivery has a far greater practical emphasis, and aims to focus more on the objectives of each individual student.

Classes are capped at 25 students and delivered by highly experienced trainers who are qualified specialists with profound knowledge and experience in the Building and Construction.

In addition to the compulsory units throughout the course there are also strategically placed tutorials throughout the program and for up to 12 weeks after completion.

TIV offers extensive student support throughout the timetabled component of the course and for up to 12 weeks following completion.

Certificate IV Building and Construction course

For students specifically interested in becoming registered builders, TIV also provides a specialist workshop designed to best prepare students for what they will potentially encounter at the Victorian Building Authority (VBA).

Students receive a copy of the National Construction Code (NCC), The Australian House Building Manual and the VBA Guide to Standards and Tolerances, valued at $300.

The course consists of 16 units of competence which comprise the formal Certificate IV qualification. Combination of classroom and practical onsite training.

A Workshop for graduates to assist them prepare for the Victorian Building Authority’s registered builder application and examination processes.
No course pre-requisites. Industry experience combined with basic math and computer skills an advantage.
This training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding to eligible applicants.

TIV’s Certificate IV in Building & Construction (Building) is designed to meet the needs of aspiring or existing Builders and Managers of small to medium sized building businesses and for people interested in becoming registered builders.

The full-time program has been a resounding success since its inception, offering a unique full-time structure in January (Summer) and July (Winter) each year for students with more than five-years industry experience the opportunity the complete the course at a faster rate than the part-time equivalent.

The course is delivered from Monday to Saturday from 8am to 4pm.

Whilst it is an accelerated course, it is also significantly more challenging, with students screened thoroughly prior to enrolment to ensure they can handle the increased demands and time commitment required for such an intense learning environment.

This qualification is designed to meet the needs of site managers and supervisors in the building and construction industry.

This course is designed for people who:
• Are working in the building and construction industry;
• Are looking at becoming a registered builder.
It covers the skills and knowledge on which applicants are examined by the Building Practioners Board for registration as a residential or commercial builder.
One evening per week plus fourteen Saturday’s over nine months. Participants are expected to spend additional time between sessions undertaking self study, inspecting buildings under construction, and preparing and completing assignments.

This course will consist of 18 units of competence. Applicants who have already completed Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) may be eligible for credit transfers in up to 6 of the 18 units of competency, thus reducing the study load to the remaining 12 units of competence.
